Above is a picture from the biggest traditional pharmacy I’ve found in thus far. This is an area in the back with drawers of different herbs. The front part of the shop is more like Walgreens with aisles of patent pills, oils, and salves. There was also an area to have a consultation with an herbalist. Apparently an herbalist comes in everyday around 3-4 in the afternoon and works to 6-7 to help people getting off work. The consultation is free. All you have to pay for is the herbs.
I made my own prescription while there and they packaged them all in little baggies. Total cost? 12 RMB (or 2$). It’s mostly a digestive aid with a few extra herbs thrown in for dry lungs.
We turned a corner and found a huge back-alley shopping street. All kinds of stuff. All kinds of people. There was even an area for outdoor pool that had five or six tables going.
